Who doesn't have e-mails nowadays? Like seriously?


AHA! You already knew today's topic? So, let's learn more about emails today! :)


What is e-mail?
Email is an electronic mail sent across the Internet and can be quickly delivered within minutes or seconds.


What are the advatages and disadvantages?


+ve
convenience, fast speed, inexpensive, printable, reliable, global, generality (Not limit to text. You can also attach files contain of graphics and documents.)


-ve
misdirection, interception, forgery, overload, funk (spamming), no response from receiver.

Back then, there's no verification through subscription on emails so people can use your e-mail to subscribe to anyone. However, things have changed- security improvement. You cannot deny that there will be so many changes 10 years from now, something that we couldn't even imagine right now. 

Certain email terms that you need to know:

1. Email address- electronic post office box
2. Email client- "a computer program used to access and manage a user's email" (Wiki, 2012). For example: Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird 
3. Email server- basically works like a virtual post office where it has a storage for emails and set of rules on ways to respond to those emails.

There are so many things that you can do on your mailbox. I just found out something during our class last Wednesday. There are folders that can be made in your inbox~~~ XD is it just me...?

- SMTP (basic hantar mail) how it distributes depends on: 


 * POP (Post Office Protocol) , no copy, hilang dari server 
macam post office. lepas dah hantar takde simpan lagi dah. The good thing about this is you can access offline but once corrupt, selamat jalan romeo.


* IMAP almost the same with HTTP, keep emails on server but depends on types of account
 noted that if there are too many emails, server will overload.





Anyway, for newbies who want to create an e-mail, here are the easy steps on how to.

• email adress.

or too loooong...
iamshocuteomgyouarejealous@yahoo.com.my


or something like...

you might don't want your lecturer to think twice before sending you an email. :p

• - send a lengthy email might intimidate your receiver.

• - ALL CAPS. It reflects on shouting or yelling in general.

Internet and Search Engine cannot be separated

I will talk about something that everyone knows, something that everyone is using, something that very close to us these days..

I.N.T.E.R.N.E.T

What is Internet? 

• A global collection of network.
• The network of networks.
• Combination of networks that carry various information and services

To connect to the Internet, one has to go through Internet Service Provider or ISP like TM and TIME.

The connection can be made via :

• Dial-up
• Landline
• T-lines
• WiFi/WiMAX
• Satellite
• Cell phones

Internet Protocol (IP)

- every machine on Internet has a unique identifying number - IP adress.

- IP is a language used by computers to communicate.

eg: 161.138.220.15

With the existence of the Internet, things are getting easier. Web browser and search engine are something that cannot be separated when it comes to the Internet and connection. 

Web browser is a software application to display and interact with something and located on a web page at a website. Many of you, I believe, know that there are so many things that you can do with web browser. And one of the most important things that you used it for is to search for information, images or anything with the search engine. 

To make thing easier, there are certain things that you need to know about search engine.

Hardware

Assalamualaikum~ Bonjour! ^^ (suddenly missing French class)


Directly to the point, let's look a little bit on hardware for networking purposes today.




File server

- the heart of most networks
- very fast computer
- provide load-balancing between servers




Workstations


- user computer that is connected to a network
- not necessarily need storage because data can be saved on file server
- almost all computers can serve as a network workstation




Network Interface Card (NIC) 

- connects network to computer workstation
- major factor on speed and network performance
- few types of NIC * Ethernet * Localtalk 


(note: Ethernet is faster and more expensive than Localtalk. It is also available on most computers not like Localtalk of which only available on Mac)




Hub 

hub

- facilitate communication between devices
- function almost the same as switch (the difference is how data is transferred. Switch determine the destination of the data first before send it. In contrast, hub just send away the data without considering which destination it is supposed to go.)
hub is no longer being used nowadays because switch is better. Hub will trouble user when the traffic is jam.  Less efficient.

Well... there are plenty other network hardware like bridge, repeater, router etc. (it might take the a lengthy and wordy post to provide everything here) 
The most important thing is to know which one is the most suitable hardware to be used for your own purpose.
